Every patient deserves safer care.

OUR FOCUS

Safe medication handling

Medication safety includes how a product is prepared, stored, accessed, and administered. We promote awareness of contamination prevention, appropriate container use, and product-specific storage and disposal instructions.

Medical-device labeling and use

Single-use, single-patient use, and reusable are distinct designations. We encourage healthcare organizations to verify the labeling and instructions applicable to the exact device and components in use.

Cleaning and reprocessing

Replacing a disposable attachment or wiping an exterior surface does not necessarily reprocess an entire device. Reusable equipment should be evaluated against the manufacturer’s applicable cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization instructions.

Shared reservoirs and fluid pathways

When medication reservoirs or internal delivery components are retained across patients, the complete system deserves careful review. Relevant considerations include contamination pathways, protective features, manufacturer validation, and the actual clinical workflow.

Patient communication

When a potential safety breach is identified, patients need accurate information about what is known, what remains uncertain, and the steps being taken to assess and address the concern.
